Learning how to find the Amazon links to the individual product that you are recommending and making it clear on the website would make it a lot easier to convert your blog visitors into buyers much faster. Let us see how we can improve your income as an Amazon affiliates with these tips on adding Amazon links on WordPress.
The first step you would need to do is to sign up with the Amazon Associate Program and follow their steps to join the program.
Use Text Links To Add Amazon Affiliate Links in WordPress
Firstly, you can add an Amazon link to your WordPress blog with text links. You need to get the text link to an individual product that has your associate tag along with it before you insert it onto your WordPress blog. This is the only way Amazon can track your clicks and send you the commissions for any sales that you make.
Do remember that any sales that the blog visitor who clicks on a link found on your blog post makes within the cookie period (which is 24 hours) can earn you a commission.
There are a few ways you could use to find the text link to individual products to feature on your website.
Getting Text Link Via The SiteStripe
One of the easiest way to get a text link for any individual product within Amazon is via the SiteStripe. This is a thin strip of information that appears on the top of any page with Amazon.com that you visit.
This means you can find your affiliate link while browsing through the Amazon store, making it easy to get the link you want for the blog post that you are working on.
When you get the Amazon Associate Account activated and set up, you should first ensure that the SiteStripe display is on. You can do this by enabling it via the SiteStripe via the Amazon Associates Dashboard.
To do so, you go to menu bar, click on Tools and go to SiteStripe like in this image. Then you set the Display settings to “ON” or “Green”.
Once you do this, you will see the SiteStripe at the top of every page within Amazon.com that you open, as long as you can signed into your Amazon Associate Program.
Essentially you would go to the page within Amazon.com that has the product you wish to recommend and access the SiteStripe. To get a text link, click on the option that says “Text” and that opens up to this.
I personally prefer to use the full link just to be sure there is no errors and Amazon can track the link as mine when people click on it.
Now, you simply copy and paste this generated code onto your WordPress Blog. We will elaborate more on this in a short while, after I address another way you could get text links for your Amazon recommendations.
Creating Text Links Via The Associate Dashboard
There is another way you could create text links to promote your Amazon recommendations and earn a commission. To use this method, you are going to need to go to the Amazon Associate dashboard, click on “Product Linking” on the tool bar and go to “Product Links“.
Then search for the product you are looking for. You can either search for its exact name or enter a general term and find the exact product that you want to find the link for.
Once you decide on the link you want, click on the down arrow that comes beside the Get Link button. The Get link button provides you with more ways to get a link inserted into your WordPress blog, but the arrow instantly gets you the text link.
This pop up would appear once the down arrow was clicked on. Then simply click on the Highlight HTML, do a copy and paste and use that code on your WordPress Blog. If you wish to explore other ways of linking this product on your blog, you could check out the Build Link button.
Inserting Link Into WordPress Blog
Now that we have the link, we need to know how to add this Amazon affiliate link on our WordPress Blog! Let’s see how we can do that now.
Essentially, you want the text link that you just copied to be anchored onto a text within the blog post content. Let’s see how we can do that.
First you want to open your blog post editor on WordPress and be sure its on the visual side of the editor. Then you add the text that is going to make up the blog content.
You don’t need to have the entire blog post written out – but you do need the words or phrase that you plan on link the Amazon link to.
Highlight the word or phrase that you want the text link anchored on. Then click on the Insert/Edit Links button on the top of the editor, as shown below.
This opens this next segment up. Click on the circular wheel like image to continue.
Once this is done, this window below will open. When it does, simply paste the link that you have from Amazon, and click on Add Link.
Once you click on “Add Link”, you would have successfully created a text link that adds an Amazon Affiliate link onto your WordPress blog!

Use Native Ads To Create Amazon Affiliate Product Displays
A picture does speak a thousand words right? And that is also true when you are trying to make a recommendation and make money as an affiliate marketer. We need pictures of the products and compelling call to action features that makes the reader want to click on it and get it right away.
Fortunately, there is an easy way to do it right from the Amazon Associate dashboard with their new Native Shopping Ads.
What Are Amazon Native Shopping Ads?
Native Ads essentially allow you to choose a few products that are either random, through search results, or custom selected by you in a neat and effective way. It looks attractive to the reader and does tend to entice them to click and buy the product you recommend. Here is an example of a Native Ad.
Now let’s look at how you can easily create Native Shopping Ads to add Amazon affiliate links in WordPress and make your recommendations. There are three types of Native Shopping Ads
- Recommendation Ads
- Search Ads
- Custom Ads
Each of these different ads can serve your purpose, depending on how you use them.
The Recommended Ad would create a product display based on products suggested by Amazon. This is mainly derived from the content of your webpage and the categories you select. This could be quite a broad range and the products that show up may or may not be what your blog topic is about.
The Search Ad is created based on a search term you enter. This could possibly give you results closer to what you need because they are based on search terms you indicate.
The Custom Ad allows you to choose exact products to display on the blog post. You can search and select exactly what you want to display.
How To Create Recommendation Ads
Now let’s see how you can create each of these ad for your blog.
Next, you can select which type of ad you would like to create from the top of the page. Let’s see how we can create a recommended ad.
When you click to create a recommendation ad, you would find this on the left side of the page with a preview on the right. Enter a name for the ad and choose the tracking ID you would like to use with the dropdown menu. Then select the Ad format you would like to use. Make sure you like the look by checking the preview that show yup.
Then, select the categories that you would like the recommendations to be focused on. You can chose more than one. The recommendations that Amazon offers would give more emphasis to these categories alongside the content on your blog.
You can also offer fallback keywords that Amazon could consider if they cant find the right products to fill the display with.
Once you are done, click on the “Save and View Code” button to see the preview and the code to add onto your WordPress blog. Let’s see how to create the Search Ad and Custom Ad before we see the exact steps on doing this.
How To Create A Search Ad
Click on the option to create a search ad to see the page look like this.
Just like in the Recommendation Ad, you would select the tracking ID and Ad Format. You would also choose the default category. In some cases, this generates more accurate and relevant products to display.
Next, enter the default search term. You should try choose something that matches the kind of products that would best suit your blog post.
Finally you can edit to change what shows up as the title of this display and see a preview on the right.
Now the code is ready for you to paste onto your blog to be used as a means of adding Amazon affiliate links to your WordPress site.
How To Create A Custom Ad
The last kind of Native Shopping Ad is the Custom Ad. In this ad, you get to select the exact products that you would like to add to the blog post or page.
When creating a custom ad, you select the tracking ID and the ad format as always. Next you can use the search feature to add in products. The custom ad requires that you use atleast 4 products to create a display.
Click add on the products that you want on the display and add them in. You will see a list of the products already added right below the search feature as well as the preview. Once you are ready, the ad code is ready for you to copy.
How To Create Card Type- Native Shopping Ad
What if you want to showcase a Single Product? Not to worry, you can use the Native card to do this. You can do this via the SiteStripe.
When using the SiteStripe, go to the Amazon.com page with the particular product you would like to feature.
Once you are on the product page, click on the Custom link on the SiteStripe. Select the tracking ID you would like to use and the code is ready. Now simply copy and paste this code onto the WordPress blog. That’s simple right?
The Native Card Ad Would Look Like This
Inserting Native Ads Into The WordPress Blog
Now that we know how to create Native Shopping ads, let see how we can add it to the WordPress Blog. At the end of creating each ad, you see a code segment that looks something like this.
Click on that yellow button that says “Highlight Ad Code” and copy the code (or click CTRL-C). Now we can use the code on our WordPress blog.
Now open the WordPress dashboard and go to the editor of the blog post that you would like to use this code on. Switch over to the text mode when you know where within you post you would like to place the ad display.
Once you are, simply paste the ad code (or hit CTRL-V) at the location. Note that since this is a script file, you would not see the display while on the visual mode. You will need to either see the preview or update the post to see it on the front end.
The text end would look like this.
Now the Native Shopping Ad would be live within the blog post!

Pros & Cons of the Amazon Native Ads
There are some pros and cons of displaying Amazon Native Shopping Ads within your blog post. Some of its advantages are
- They are easily accessible within the Amazon Associate dashboard
- They are free to create.
- The recommendation and search adds are dynamic and the products would change according to availability and other factors. You need not worry about a product being out of stock showing up on the display. (Sadly, this can happen with the custom ads).
- They look pleasing and tends to convert to sales.
However, there are some drawbacks
- You dont have total control over what products get displayed within the blog post. (Except when you use custom ads and in which case, you would have to constantly ensure the product is in stock)
- Ad blockers on reader’s browsers can hide your Native ads. This makes it fruitless and quite confusing because readers can’t see the recommendations that your blog posts offer. How can they click and buy something when they cant see the link?
Nonetheless, this is a simple way to insert Amazon affiliate links into your blog. Let’s look at one other way that you could do so within the Amazon Associates platform itself.
Create An Image Display Of The Product Via The SiteStripe
You can also add an Amazon link to your blog as an image display through the SiteStripe. However, I personally am not a fan of this method and personally feel that the Card Type Native Ads look more appealing. But nonetheless, let’s learn how to do it so it comes in handy.
With the SiteStripe active on Amazon.com, go to the product page that you intend to showcase on your blog. Then Click on the “Text+Image” link on the top. This would open up a small window. as shown below.
Then choose the Tracking ID and your code is ready to be used. You can see how the display will look on the preview in the right side.
Paste this on the WordPress blog post just like you would a Native Card and you would be all set.
This method only works when you are showcasing one product. To show many products, you would have to do this repeatedly for all the products.
Sadly, that comes with their own drawbacks too. When the code for multiple displays are placed side by side, they dont always tend to align equally and could look untidy and not professional to the reader.
Also, they tend to not look as effective on mobile devices. On some WordPress themes, they work out fine – but not all. This could pose a problem because if viewers aren’t impressed at your website, they might leave.
Personally I prefer the Native cards and Ads to this method of adding Amazon links on the WordPress blog.
